ย Shortly before 12 p.m. Tuesday, the St. Maryโ€™s County 911 center starting receiving numerous calls reporting a house was engulfed in flames across the street from Dynard Elementary School in Clements.

ย Numerous volunteer fire companies were dispatched to fight the fire and provide backup water supply, including two companies out of Charles County.

ย It took the better part of an hour for firefighters to knock down the flames.

ย In the end, the brick home was gutted and drenched inside, leaving a family of four homeless.

ย The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office, which arrived at the scene, has yet to release a cause or any other details on the fire. The American Red Cross, Southern Maryland Chapter, responded to assist the family.

ย A woman received injuries escaping the fire, but at first refused treatment from volunteer ambulances on the scene. Three hours after the initial call came in, the woman requested treatment, and she was taken to St. Maryโ€™s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
