Authorities in St. Mary’s County are investigating a drunk driving accident with injuries.
Rescue crews responded to 21890 Ronald Drive in Lexington Park around 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 9 for report of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, crews discovered one vehicle involved with five occupants to include the driver and four children.
Investigation revealed the driver, identified as Miguel F. Aguilar, 38 of Lexington Park, was driving along Pegg Road and hit a curb causing him to leave the roadway and strike a telephone pole in the area of Pegg Lane. The driver blew out two tires and continued a little under a half mile on Pegg Road to Ronald Drive. Aย witness followed the driver and called 911 as he was trying to flee.
Aguilar was located by authorities on Ronald Drive where witnesses observed the driver get outย while askingย ย bystandersย “Don’t call the police I’mย (expletive) up.”ย Aguilar repeatedly told witnesses on the scene that the children were ok, as most of them were bleeding from the face and other areas.
The mother of the injured responded to the scene and transported two of the children to St. Mary’s Hospital. A third child was transported by ambulance to SMH, while a fourth child was flown by MSP Trooper 7ย to Children’s Hospital with serious head trauma.
The driver was given a road side breathalyzer test in which he failed. The driver was then transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment to injuries he received in the crash.
Aguilar was charged with the following:
– Failure to Immediately Stop Vehicle at Scene of Accident Involving Bodily Injury
– Reckless Driving
– Failure to Control Vehicle Speed on Highway to Avoid Collisionย
– Failing to Secure Child Under Age 8 in Child Safety Seat When Transporting in Motor Vehicleย
– Driving, Attempting to Drive Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol
– Driving, Attempting to Drive Vehicle While Under theย Influence of Alcohol Per Se
– Driving,ย Attempting to Drive Vehicle While Under the Influence fo Alcoholย
Maryland State Police continue to investigate.
