WALDORF, Md. — Firefighters responded to a greenhouse fire early Wednesday morning in Waldorf.
The fire was reported around 5:08 a.m. on April 8, 2026, in the 12800 block of Schlagel Road.
Initial callers reported a greenhouse on fire. Responding crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions, with flames impacting a greenhouse structure as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Command reported that approximately half of the greenhouse was affected during the incident. Crews initiated an exterior attack before advancing hose lines to extinguish the fire and check for remaining hot spots.
According to Schlagel Farms, the fire was caused by a malfunctioning propane heater inside the greenhouse.
“The Waldorf Fire Department was on scene quickly and fire departments from surrounding stations also responded. We could not be more grateful for their professionalism and rapid response,” the farm shared in a statement.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the greenhouse and plants lost in the fire are expected to be replaced as rebuilding efforts begin.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
