PASADENA, Md. — A late-night traffic stop turned into a drug and weapons arrest after a suspect fled from detectives and crashed a short distance away before being taken into custody, according to police.

Ryan Kelly Hazel, 33, of Baltimore, was arrested on April 20, 2026, following the incident along Solley Road near Energy Parkway.

According to investigators, detectives with the Eastern District Strategic Patrol Team attempted to stop a light blue 2009 Infiniti sedan around 11:25 p.m. The vehicle initially pulled over but fled as detectives approached. Officers did not pursue the vehicle, which crashed a short distance away.

Detectives observed Hazel attempting to conceal items underneath a parked vehicle before he was taken into custody.

A search of Hazel and the surrounding area led to the recovery of multiple suspected controlled dangerous substances, including approximately 10.05 grams of cocaine, 4.97 grams of crack cocaine, 324.56 grams of cannabis, 4.84 grams of PCP, and two packages of Suboxone. Authorities also recovered a large quantity of suspected drug packaging materials.

In addition, detectives seized a Beretta APX 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number that was loaded with nine rounds. Officers also recovered 19 additional rounds of 9mm ammunition and 15 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition.

Police say Hazel is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Hazel faces numerous charges, including multiple drug possession and distribution-related offenses, firearm violations, and altering physical evidence. Court records indicate he is being held without bond following a bail review hearing before Judge Thomas V. Miller III on April 21, 2026.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2026, in Anne Arundel County District Court in Annapolis.

Under Maryland law, felony drug distribution and firearm-related offenses can carry significant penalties, including multiple years of incarceration depending on the charges and prior convictions.
