LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Department of Social Services (CCDSS) is inviting local students and families to attend a free school supply event this weekend as part of its “Repack the Backpack” initiative.

The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon in the CCDSS lobby, located at 200 Kent Ave. in La Plata. No registration is required, and all are welcome while supplies last.

The event is designed to help students start the new year strong by offering free school supplies to refresh their backpacks. As the new year begins, the department is welcoming students back with encouragement and practical support to help them feel prepared and confident in the classroom.

“We’re cheering on and welcoming our students back to class after the holiday break with a Repack the Backpack event!” the department shared in a Facebook post.

Stop by on Saturday, Jan. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon for a fresh supply restock and a warm welcome from the department’s own “pep squad.”
