The Calvert County Department of Solid Waste will accept tires at two locations:
- Appeal Landfill at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby
- Barstow Customer Convenience Center at 350 Stafford Road in Barstow
Both residents and farmers can bring up to 10 tires. You will need to bring either a driver’s license or proof of residency.ย
Businesses may not recycle tires. Face masks and social distancing will be required. They will not accept tires filled with water or dirt.ย
How Tires Pollute Water
Recycling tires is important. Tires can containing heavy metals that leech into the ground as they decay and ultimately make their way into the water supply. Additionally, there are gasses inside tires that are capable of compromising landfill liners designed to prevent contaminants from getting into the water supply.ย
