LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) Partners for Success will host a free virtual workshop Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Gary Shulman, MS. Ed., will be presenting on the topic of Thinking Outside The Box.

During very stressful times, parents and caregivers of children, teens, and adults with disabilities must gain skills and knowledge to help them think creatively and expand their options to solve problems, meet their needs, and deal with crises for their families.

We often use the same programs, services, benefits, and entitlements repeatedly. Some of those might not be here in the future (hopefully they will all remain), but knowing about other, less-known “treasures” to support our families is critically important.

Thinking Outside the Box will explore lesser-known “treasures” to support our families and expand opportunities for success during fragile times. You’ll also learn strategies to identify and maximize successful outcomes for our child and family. Join us and share your “detective” experiences so all can benefit!

The workshop is free; registration is required. Register here.

He then transitioned to become the Special Needs and Early Childhood Coordinator for the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for 10 years. His passion for advocacy grew as he worked more and more with parents of children with disabilities.

Gary Shulman now serves as a private consultant conducting hundreds of training sessions to help parents and professionals find and access the services and systems required to maximize the potential of their children, teens and adults with disabilities.

Now semi-retired in Arlington VA but still supporting vulnerable families he serves as Commissioner for the Partnership for Children, Youth and Families. Gary continues his workshop presentations nationally and now also enjoys sharing his poetry that he passionately writes with the goal of leaving this world a better place one word at a time.
