WALDORF, Md. — Dollar Tree, a familiar stop for Southern Maryland families seeking affordable party supplies and everyday basics, has raised prices again — with many items now listed at $1.50, $3, $5 and even $7.
For decades, the chain’s one-price promise made it a budget-friendly tradition — a place where parents let children pick out a small treat and neighbors stocked up on décor and household goods for just a dollar. That tradition has shifted, as a visit to the new Dollar Tree at 2985 Festival Way in Waldorf — recently opened in the former Party City near St. Charles Towne Center — revealed bright green “More Choices” signs and new higher price tiers throughout the store.

Shoppers will still find rows of $1.25 basics, but the expanded sections now include:
- $1.50 plastic storage tubs and seasonal décor
- $3 extension cords, car air fresheners, small tools
- $5 heavy-duty cutlery packs, toys and kitchen accessories
- A $7 stainless steel travel tumbler prominently displayed with drinkware
In some aisles, shoppers will notice red-dot stickers covering the original price tags — and even online, items that once listed for $5 now list for $7, hinting at a recent round of price changes.

Despite the higher tiers, the store continues to stock a wide variety of everyday essentials, seasonal décor and brand-name favorites, making it a go-to stop for families looking for affordable options on party supplies, kitchen basics and holiday items.
Dollar Tree Across Southern Maryland
An online search of Dollar Tree’s store directory shows that most Charles County locations — along with the stores in California, Md., and Prince Frederick — already display the green “More Choices” label, indicating that the expanded pricing program is in place at those sites.
However, the Indian Head, Dunkirk and Lexington Park stores currently do not display the “More Choices” icon on their online store pages, suggesting the rollout has not yet reached those locations.

Dollar Tree’s Pricing Journey
Dollar Tree began in 1986 as the “Only $1.00” concept in the Southeast and grew nationwide through the 1990s under the Dollar Tree Stores Inc. name. For decades, the single-price model became a household staple for families looking for party supplies, seasonal décor and everyday essentials at just one dollar.
In 2019, the company launched Dollar Tree Plus! in select U.S. stores, introducing $3 and $5 price points for larger sizes, multipacks and brand-name products. By 2021, the baseline price at all locations rose to $1.25 to offset rising shipping and labor costs. That move set the stage for today’s nationwide “More Choices” program, which now features tiers at $1.50, $3, $5 and $7.
