Lexington Park, MD— On May 19, St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Ball responded to Valley Estates Drive in Lexington Park for a disturbance.ย

The caller stated a male wearing a Redskins jersey was outside beating on a door. When Ball arrivedย on the scene contact was made with the male, who was identifiedย as Jason E. Wright, 34, of Landover.ย

Ball exited his agency cruiser and instructed Wright to talkย to him. Wright startedย walking the opposite direction continuouslyย glancing back. Ball gave Wright several commands to stop and speak with him. Wright then began to run away from Ball.

Wright continuedย running through a garden along the fence of the residence and around the boat in the driveway. According to charging documents, “Ball drew his agency issued Taser on Wright and pointed it at him commanding him to get on the ground.”ย

Wright complied with Ball’s commands; Wright was placed in handcuffs. Upon searching Wright’s front left the pocket., Ball located a small bag containing a yellowish powdery substance, which was suspected to be crack cocaine.ย

Ball also located a silver and black handgun in a garden that was loaded with a round in the chamber. It was determined that Wright had an active warrantย through Prince George’s County.ย

Wright was transportedย to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with two counts of possession a regulated firearm while being a fugitive, handgun on person, CDS possession- not marijuana, and illegal possession of ammo.ย

Wright has a court hearing scheduled for July 5 in ย District Court. Wright’s bond was set at $20,000. He faces a maximum jail sentence of 18 years and/or a maximum fine of $48,000.ย
