WALDORF, Md. — A fire that began in the attached garage of a two-story home on Copley Avenue near Post Office Road spread into the residence Wednesday night.

The call came in at 9:25 p.m. Dec. 3, 2025, when a resident reported that cigarettes had ignited a fire in the attached garage and flames were starting to push into the home. Dispatchers directed the occupants to evacuate, and crews arrived to find everyone safely outside. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters issued a working incident alert and advanced lines inside the home while additional companies staged along the front of the home. Crews operated on both floors as command coordinated accountability checks and directed resources.

SMECO and the gas company were requested to the scene to secure utilities. Primary and secondary searches throughout the home were reported clear.

The fire was brought under control just after 10 p.m., though units remained on scene for overhaul and safety checks into the night.
