George E. Baroniak (Sonny) was born on May 14, 1941. He died on June 18, 2026. In those 85 years he lived a life of adventure, learning, and service to his community and county, making many friends along the way.
George was born to George Frank and Margaret Kalnasy Baroniak in Dameron, MD. He graduated from Great Mills High School in 1959. In 1963, he joined the Air Force, and worked in power production in Libya.
He continued his education at St. Mary’s College, and graduated with a double major in mathematics and biology.
George’s next adventure took him to Fort Belvoir, working for the Army as a contractor in the night vision labs. After that, he found his perfect job with the Navy as an Engineering Technician/Program Manager, during which time he had opportunities to travel the world.
In his spare time, he volunteered his talents and knowledge to many causes in the community, serving on the Ethics Committee and Southern Maryland Society, the Historical Society and other groups.
George is survived by his brother John and his sister Margaret. He was predeceased by his companion Pamela Simpson.
