crime scene in Maryland

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A 27-year-old man was killed in a shooting Saturday night in Anne Arundel County, and a suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.

Officers responded around 9:15 p.m. on April 18, 2026, to the 7700 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers and EMS personnel located the victim, identified as Michael Joseph Hayes, 27, of Glen Burnie, and began life-saving measures. He was transported to an area trauma center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The suspect, identified as Ioannis Georgios Giorgakis, 32, of Baltimore, remained on scene and was detained as officers began their investigation.

Detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit determined the shooting followed a physical altercation between the two men in a parking lot. Investigators said the victim had been at the location earlier in the evening and returned prior to the incident, when the altercation occurred. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim.

Giorgakis was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and use of a firearm in a violent crime.

Court records show he is being held without bond following a bail review hearing before Judge Kemp Hammond in Annapolis District Court on April 20, 2026.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit at 410-222-4731 or the Tip Line at 410-222-4700.
