Federal Court

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — In a brief hearing Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, a Glen Burnie man pleaded guilty to felony motor vehicle theft and fleeing and eluding police, then received the maximum six-year sentence in Maryland’s Division of Correction.

Zachary Ernesto Rolf, 44, entered the plea in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court before Judge Mark Crooks, who imposed a total of six years. Prosecutors said the case stemmed from a June theft of a pickup truck from a busy Home Depot parking lot and a multijurisdictional pursuit that ended in Baltimore City.

“This was a really brazen move by the defendant to steal a truck while the owner was loading lumber into it,” Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said after the hearing. “This defendant is a repeat offender who had just been released from jail a few days prior to this incident. I want to thank our prosecution team and investigators for their work to take this public safety threat off the streets.”

According to charging documents summarized in court, officers were called June 9 to the Home Depot at 66 Mountain Road in Pasadena. The victim told police his 2014 GMC truck was left unlocked and running with the keys in the ignition while he and a friend were loading lumber at the rear. An unidentified man got into the truck and drove toward Route 10, the victim said, with about $8,000 worth of tools in a toolbox, $150 in newly purchased lumber and the victim’s cell phone inside.

Store surveillance video showed a white male exiting the store, walking the lot and then entering the truck, prosecutors said. Anne Arundel County Police Aviation located and tracked the vehicle into Baltimore City, where the driver abandoned it in the 2200 block of Langley Street and ran. After a search of the area, officers took Rolf into custody. Police said he identified himself, and investigators later confirmed he was the person seen in the surveillance footage. Baltimore City Police Aviation assisted in the search.

The case was prosecuted by the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation was led by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
