CHAPTICO, Md. — Goldpetal Farms is inviting families to follow the yellow brick road into a world of color and creativity during its first-ever SoMD Blooms Poppy Fest, taking place May 16-18 in Chaptico. The three-day festival promises a “poppy-filled good time” along the farm’s vibrant “yellow brick road,” also known as Sunflower Street.
Known across Southern Maryland for its stunning sunflower mazes and pick-your-own flower gardens, Goldpetal Farms has welcomed thousands of visitors since opening in 2015. This year’s new event brings a burst of poppies and a touch of magic, offering a colorful weekend filled with Oz-inspired activities for all ages.

The festival kicks off Friday, May 16, with “An Evening in the Poppies,” a 21-and-over night from 5 to 9 p.m. It’s a chance for grown-ups to unwind among the blooms and enjoy food trucks, music and golden hour views.
Saturday, May 17, is designed for families and friends, with “Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My!” running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Themed fun, games and food trucks will offer plenty of opportunities for memory-making.
On Sunday, May 18, the festival wraps up with “There’s No Place Like Home,” an Armed Forces Appreciation Day from noon to 4 p.m. Active-duty military, veterans and their families will receive free admission in honor of their service.
Goldpetal Farms has hosted many seasonal events since opening its first sunflower maze in 2015. Family-owned and operated, the farm blends agriculture, horticulture, ecology and visual arts to create meaningful, educational outdoor experiences.
