Gun Confiscated From 12-Year-Old Student At Anne Arundel County School

FORT MEADE, Md. – On January 5, 2023, the School Resource Officer at MacArthur Middle School was notified of a student who had a handgun, loaded magazine, and loose ammunition in a bag at the school.

The student is a 12-year-old. Due to the new Juvenile Justice Reform, House Bill 459 voted into law; there are NO APPLICABLE CHARGES.

A 12-year-old can no longer be charged with certain crimes, including bringing a handgun & ammunition to school.

Detectives conferred with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Ft. Meade Provost Marshal’s Office.

Since the law took effect on June 1, 2022, we have had dozens of cases where juvenile suspects were located, identified, and unable to be charged.

Those cases include assaults, weapons violations, intimidation, harassment, drug charges, theft, burglary, sex offenses, threats, motor vehicle thefts, animal abuse, arson, and incident exposures. A full list of those cases is available upon request.

Lt. Davis will be available for sound at 1:00 p.m. at Anne Arundel County Police Headquarters if you are interested.

Please RSVP to her if you are attending.

    1. Agreed, if they can’t charge the child then whoever the firearm belongs to should definitely be charged. I mean anyone can be charged for providing alcohol to a minor there should definitely be even more hefty charges for providing a weapon to a minor. Just ludicrous that no one is being charged.

  1. I can see no charges for the kid BUT the parents must go to jail! See what happens when DEMONcrats rule the state??!!!

  2. If those legislators are parents, they likely teach their children that there are consequences to their actions. So how does a law like this benefit a child? Or society?

  3. How can other students fill safe if the kid come back. We wait to see if something happens just like in other states

  4. Great law! You people voted them into office. Pray nobody is shot because there are no consequences. These kids are not as naive as you may think.

  5. What are they doing for the child? He should definitely be receiving counciling or some form of emotional therapy…
