NANJEMOY, Md. — Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon after a van struck a utility pole along Bowie Road in Nanjemoy.
Emergency crews were called to the 9100 block of Bowie Road shortly after 2:25 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2026.
Initial reports indicated a van had struck a pole. A male occupant was able to get out of the vehicle and was reportedly walking around the scene with injuries to his face and head.
Firefighters later confirmed a second occupant, an elderly woman, was trapped inside the passenger side of the van. Crews established an extrication operation and successfully removed her from the vehicle shortly before 3 p.m.
Both patients were conscious, alert and breathing following the crash and were transferred to EMS crews for treatment.
According to emergency communications, the patients were later identified as an 83-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman. Both were transported by ambulance to MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s trauma center as Priority 2 patients.
The circumstances leading up to the crash have not been released.
Motorists traveling through the area were advised to use caution while emergency crews operated at the scene.
