On April 20, at 2:25 a.m., Tpr. R. L. Jackson initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Caliber traveling at a high rate of speed on Northbound Maryland Route 235, prior to Clarkes Landing Road.
Upon making contact with the driver, Tpr Jackson observed a holstered semi-automatic handgun within reach of the driver. Initially detained for the officers safety was Tony Justin Wetherald, 27 of Lexington Park.
Wetherald was arrested on charges related to the handgun and DUI. Wetherald was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, and will be held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
