HOLLYWOOD, Md. – Harris Teeter is opening two new stores in January 2018, located in Calvert and St. Mary’s county. The grocery chain, which operates over 230 stores in seven states and the District of Columbia, is committed to ensuring that diverse local businesses are part of the mainstream resources of the company.
SMADC hosted a meeting with Southern Maryland area fruit and vegetable farmers and Robert Daly, Harris Teeter’s Produce Field Buyer, to learn about opportunities to supply the grocery chain with locally grown produce. Several Southern Maryland farms are already in discussions with store buyers, however, Harris Teeter is continuing to reach out to regional farms to increase their contacts in the community. Eleven farmers attended.
