In Charles County:
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory due to expected high temperatures throughout the weekend. Temperatures are expected to be around 100 degrees. This combined with an increasingly humid air mass will allow heat index
values to reach up to 110 degrees on Saturday. The Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9pm Saturday night.
The Charles County Commissioners would like to announce that public buildings are open for use during normal operating hours by residents to cool off during the extreme heat.

Heat Advisory for Calvert County –ย Cooling Shelters Available for At-Risk Residents
As temperatures continue to climb this week โ with heat indices by Saturday, July 24, expected to reach up to 105 degrees โ Calvert County residents are urged to take the following precautions to protect themselves and their families:
- Drink plenty of fluids; water is best.
- Avoid beverages containing alcohol, caffeine or large amounts of sugar as they can dehydrate the body.
- Stay in an air-conditioned room or building during the hottest part of the day.
- Stay out of the sun.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
- Never leave children or pets in parked cars since temperatures can rise to 130 degrees inside vehicles in only a few minutes even with the windows rolled down.
