Versace Glasses Among $11K In Frames Stolen From Waldorf LensCrafters, Police Say

WALDORF, Md. — A White Plains man was issued a criminal summons after police said he stole multiple pairs of glasses from LensCrafters in Waldorf during two separate incidents totaling more than $11,000.

David Eugene Gregory, 58, of White Plains, was charged with two counts of theft of property valued from $1,500 to under $25,000 and one count of theft scheme from $1,500 to under $25,000.

The charges stem from thefts reported April 25 and May 1, 2026, at LensCrafters, located at 3018 Festival Way in Waldorf.

According to charging documents, an officer responded to the store May 1 for a reported theft. A manager reported that the same person involved in the May 1 theft was also suspected in a previous theft at the store on April 25.

The manager told police the stolen glasses from the May 1 incident were valued at approximately $9,035, according to charging documents.

Court documents state surveillance footage from May 1 showed a man entering the store, walking around for about 10 minutes, removing multiple pairs of glasses from the wall and concealing them in his clothing before leaving without paying.

After reviewing the footage, the manager advised police that a previous theft had occurred April 25.

According to charging documents, surveillance footage from the April 25 incident showed the same man walking directly to the Versace-brand glasses, removing multiple pairs from the wall and concealing them in his clothing. The total value of that theft was listed as $2,198.

Investigators wrote that Gregory allegedly stole merchandise from LensCrafters between April 25 and May 1, using the same method both times. The total value of the merchandise was listed as $11,233.

Charging documents state the officer recognized Gregory from previous theft investigations and compared surveillance footage from LensCrafters with a driver’s license photograph to identify him.

Court records show a criminal summons was issued June 20.

A preliminary inquiry is set for Aug. 10 in Charles County District Court.
