GREAT MILLS, Md. — Two people were charged after a traffic stop in Great Mills led deputies to suspected crack cocaine, Suboxone strips, a glass smoking device and outstanding warrants, charging documents state.

Rose Ann Jones, 44, of Lusby, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Douglas Bernard Mason, 42, of Valley Lee, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from a June 23, 2026, traffic stop in the area of Norris Road and Towey Court in Great Mills.

Charging documents state a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy was operating a marked patrol vehicle when he observed a white 2009 Hyundai Sonata with a Virginia registration plate displayed on the rear of the vehicle but not on the front. The deputy initiated a traffic stop near Chancellor’s Run Road and Belvoir Road.

During the stop, Jones was identified as the driver. The front-seat passenger was identified as Mason, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to charging documents.

After Mason’s warrants were confirmed, he was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed a glass smoking device containing burnt residue suspected to be crack cocaine in Mason’s right-side shorts pocket, charging documents state.

Deputies also reported finding two 8 mg sublingual films of suspected buprenorphine, commonly known as Suboxone strips, in Mason’s rear right shorts pocket.

Charging documents state buprenorphine is a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance and is illegal to possess without a prescription. Mason told the deputy he did not have a prescription for the strips, court documents state.

Before Jones was searched, charging documents state she told the deputy she had a smoking device inside a cigarette carton stored in her bra. Police reported recovering a glass smoking device containing burnt residue suspected to be crack cocaine from the cigarette carton.

Jones also removed a D-cell battery from her bra and told the deputy it contained crack cocaine, charging documents state. An inspection of the battery revealed it was a decoy battery with a screw-off cap and an empty void inside that contained a loose rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine.

The deputy reported that the items recovered from Jones were suspected crack cocaine and related paraphernalia.

Jones and Mason were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Charging documents state Mason was also served with two outstanding arrest warrants.

Court records show Jones posted a $300 unsecured personal bond June 24. A trial in her case is set for Aug. 10, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
