Santa was at Pepper’s Pet Pantry in Solomons with pictures for the benefit of Second Hope Rescue

With pets such an integral part of the life of many families, it’s not unusual that pets also play a key role in holiday celebrations. Over the weekend three of the area’s animal rescue organizations held events to tap the spirit of that animal-human bond.

St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL) held a Santa Paws Boutique Friday evening at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds that included pictures with Santa and an exclusive dinner with the Golly Ole Man. Several of the fairground’s buildings were packed with vendors offering many holiday gift giving ideas. There also were Gingerbread Doghouse and Dog Treat Dollhouse contests.

Calvert Animal Welfare League (CAWL) held a Joyful Paws Holiday Open House Saturday at their rescue facility in Prince Frederick. The event also featured pictures with Santa and the opportunity to check out the many pets available for adoption there.

Second Hope Rescue also had pet photos Saturday at Pepper’s Pet Pantry in Solomons. The store donated four $25 gift cards for one-dollar a chance.
