Lusby, MD – A house on Sailboat Court in Lusby sustained heavy damage late Sunday evening, March 31, displacing a family of four, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze was discovered by an occupant of the three-story, wood-framed house. The fire was reported at approximately 10:33 p.m.

“The fire was the result of hot embers escaping an outside charcoal grill which had been used earlier in the day,” the fire marshal’s office reported. “Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly throughout the residence and hampered firefighting efforts. Two adults, two children and the family pets escaped the fire uninjured. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.”

Forty firefighters brought the flames under control in one hour. Damage is estimated at $650,000.
