Lusby, MD ย – A mid-morning fire heavily damaged a Calvert County home Wednesday, Feb. 10, state officials reported. The blaze at a two-story, single-family dwelling on Dalton Trail in Lusby was discovered by an occupant shortly before 10 a.m. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, no one was injured.

โ€œThe accidental fire was the result of improperly discarded embers from the fireplace placed in the garage,โ€ Dfm. Melissa Decker stated. โ€œTwo adults were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.โ€

Decker identified the home occupants as Donald and Barbara Dariano.

The investigation was conducted by Decker and deputy fire marshals John Nelson and B. Shepperd.

Forty firefighters from Solomons, St. Leonard, Prince Frederick, Hollywood and Bay District were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 45 minutes. A smoke alarm was active and working when the fire started.

Damage to the house is estimated at $250,000.
