WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer  [D – MD District 5) released the following statement Thursday, Oct. 26 after the House of Representatives adopted the Senate amendment to the budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2018:

“The Republican budget resolution adopted by the House of Representatives this morning is just a vehicle for Republicans in Congress to jam through their partisan tax reform plan. I believe that we should come together on a bipartisan plan that helps working families, but that is not what their plan does.

“The Republican tax plan gives tax cuts to the wealthiest individuals while harming middle class families in Maryland by eliminating the state and local tax deduction, which 48 percent of households in the Fifth District claim. The elimination of this deduction will result in $2.3 billion in lost tax deductions in Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District alone.

“Furthermore, the Republican plan would dramatically increase the deficit, adding $2.4 trillion to deficits over the next 10 years. I urge my Republican colleagues to abandon their partisan tax plan, and instead work with Democrats in a bipartisan manner to pass true tax reform.”
