HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pondswood and Bayside Roads injured two people Sunday morning, sending one of them to a regional trauma center by helicopter.
Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department units responded at approximately 11:48 a.m. on July 27, 2025. Crews arrived to find a T-bone style collision involving a silver SUV and a red pickup truck, both with visible front-end and side damage.
Chief 6 (M. Clark) assumed command, with Chief 6A (T. Clark) overseeing operations. Squad 6 and Squad 1 worked jointly to perform the extrication. Meanwhile, Engine 61 secured a landing zone for Maryland State Police Aviation, and Ambulance 66 (Speelman) provided on-scene care.
One patient was flown to a trauma center by helicopter. The other was transported by ground to a local hospital. Fortunately, a small dog riding in one of the vehicles was uninjured and was safely turned over to a family member.
The crash briefly closed the intersection, but the roadway has since reopened. Authorities say the exact circumstances of the collision are still under review.

I can tell what the problem is. One cannot see the stop sign approaching Bayside rd Rt261 on Ponds Woods Road. The stop sign on Ponds Wood Road is visually blocked by a short bend in the road. Just like many of the signs in Calvert County cannot be viewed because of foliage coverage. Too many accidents at Ponds Wood and Rt 261. Nothing ever done about it.
Always accidents on this road, enforcement needs to be present, the posted speed limit on 261 is only 40, yet people do 70
