| Icy road led to many fender benders all up and down Southern Maryland roads. |
TBN was out on the roads this morning checking into road conditions. All of Southern Maryland’s main highways were icy and treacherous. In one 14-mile stretch of Three Notch Road from Mechanicsville to Hollywood, TBN saw at least five cars slide into the median in both directions.
By 9 a.m., roadways had deteriorated to the point they were almost impassable. TBN reporters in Calvert report that the north bound lanes of State Route 4 above the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant were difficult to drive. The Thomas Johnson Bridge was open after multiple salt and chemical applications.

Road. As the reporter tried to stop to take these pictures, his vehicle turned sideways. The reporter managed to stop safely and reported that the only way he could stop his vehicle was to put the transmission in nuetral and coast to a stop.
State Highway crews were out in force by 9:30 a.m. and the southbound lanes of 235 were beginning to clear, but with snow falling at a fast rate and the roads forming ice under the fresh snow, driving remains dangerous.
At the time of this writing, authorities were working muiltiple accidents in every jurisdiction. Motorists are asked to stay off the highways unless it absolutely necessary to drive. The secondary roads are in even worse shape than the highways.
