PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County’s comment period for the FY27 budget is officially open, and residents can submit their opinions through May 29.

The budget process began earlier this year, and Calvert’s Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has been holding discussions and work sessions to prepare for the final budget vote. The BOCC previously held a public hearing on March 24 about the staff-recommended budget, a draft document the county puts together outlining each department’s needs and requests for the budget year.

Another public hearing was held on Tuesday, May 12, in the evening following the BOCC meeting. During that meeting, Brookshire presented the budget before opening up the public comment period to attendees and those participating online. Residents raised concerns about tax increases, revenue, and how industrial development will impact the budget and the cost of living.

At the May 12 BOCC meeting, the county’s Chief Financial Officer Malena Brookshire said that the budget vote will tentatively be held on June 9; the time of the vote was not announced at this time. In a memo to the BOCC, Brookshire also wrote that the last day to submit comments is Friday, May 29.

Residents can view the budget online and learn more about the budget development process. With the public hearing now complete, residents can still submit written comments by emailing BudgetTeam@calvertcountymd.gov or through U.S. mail to Finance & Budget at 150 Main St., Prince Frederick, MD 20678.

If the budget passes in June, it will be adopted and formally implemented by the Department of Finance & Budget in July.
