The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the identity of two witnesses who helped rescue a woman from a burning car. Officers say the rescuers’ actions may have saved the young woman’s life.

On Jan. 30 at 4:30 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was traveling on Piney Church Road in Waldorf when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree. The car caught on fire, but the victim was unable to escape because her legs were partially pinned underneath the steering wheel.

Two citizens who were in the area pulled the victim to safety. Emergency responders extinguished the fire and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries. The rescuers left the scene before anyone could get their names.

Investigators would like to acknowledge the heroic actions taken by the two rescuers and ask that anyone with information call Officer W. Saunders of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at (301) 932-2222.
