Huntingtown, MD โ€“ A motorist involved in a single-vehicle accident in Calvert County Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27 is facing drug charges, police reported.

According to the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the driver, identified as Robert Edward Masincupp of Huntingtown, was traveling on Hardesty Road near Buckley Road in Huntingtown around 12:30 p.m., when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a utility pole.

Fire and rescue crews responded and Masincupp was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

According to Lt. Todd Ireland of the sheriffโ€™s Patrol Division, suspected heroin was located in the vehicle. Masincupp was charged with driving under the influence and possession of drugs/paraphernalia, Ireland stated.

As a result of the crash Hardesty Road was closed for several hours. A few nearby homes were without electricity as the utility pole was replaced.
