Fire investigators are probing a blaze that destroyed a shed and its contents on Monday afternoon at a home in Mechanicsville. According to Deputy State Fire Marshal Caryn McMahon, the fire was reported by the homeowner at 5:47 p.m. Damage is estimated at $5,000 to the structure and $7,000 to the contents.

The 10-by-12 foot shed on New Market Turner Road is owned by Raymond and Jennifer Hayes.

It took 25 firefighters from the Mechanicsville, Hollywood and Hughesville volunteer fire departments five minutes to bring the blaze under control.

According to DFM McMahon the fire also spread to a nearby second shed.
