ANNAPOLIS, Md. – February 24, 2020. Deputy State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling and Chief of the Special Victims Unit Sarah Proctor testified in the House Judiciary Committee in support of HB1116, which would subject all sexual offenders convicted of sex abuse of a minor to lifetime sexual offender supervision regardless of the minor’s age.
The current law only requires the convicted sex offender to adhere to lifetime supervision only if the victim is under the age of 12 years old.
Thank you to Delegate Matt Morgan for sponsoring this important piece of legislation, which aims to protect all children who are victims of the crime of sexual abuse of a minor.
Senator Jack Bailey is the sponsor for this same bill in the Senate (SB320).
