John Edward “Sonny Boy” Price, Jr., 83, of Callaway, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at his home.
Born on June 5, 1943, in Compton, Maryland, John was the son of the late John Edward Price, Sr. and Laura Thelma Bowman. He spent much of his life working as a farmer in the agricultural industry, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.
John was a lifelong resident of Southern Maryland and was known for his quiet nature, kind heart, and love of family. He enjoyed walking, watching his favorite football team (the Cowboys) and Westerns. He found joy in the simple things in life, sitting on the porch, listening to music, and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. He was a man of great faith and always reminded family members that he was praying for them.
John is survived by his sisters, Helena Marie Greene and Alice Theresa Barnes; Brother-in-law, William Rhody Barnes, Jr; God Daughter, Sylvia Greenwell; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura; his siblings, Mary Geraldine Spears and Thomas Bernard Price, as well as his beloved nephew, Vernon Alfonso Greene.
Those who knew John will remember him for his loving spirit, hardy laugh, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 11:00 – 11:55 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 22800 Washington St, Leonardtown, MD 20650 followed by Mass beginning at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD following services.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Ronald Greene, Wilbur Greene, James Spears, Jr., James Cornell Barnes, Jr., Troy Greene, and Michael Herndon.
