La Plata Rotary Club is gearing up for its 42nd annual Lobster Festival on Oct. 1, 2017, and everyone is invited.

The Lobster Festival is La Plata Rotary’s biggest event of the year and is set from noon to 6 p.m. at the Charles County Fairgrounds, 8440 Fairgrounds Road, in La Plata, rain or shine. One ticket gets you two whole lobsters; one cup of the best-fried clams you will ever eat; all-you-can-eat hots dogs, hamburgers, and sides; and all the beer you can drink. Cost is $65 per person, $30 of which is tax deductible; $15 for kids aged 5 to 12; and kids younger than 5 are admitted free.
Enjoy live entertainment from the TRILOGY Band, plus activities and children’s entertainment all day.

Lobster Festival supports scholarships, donations, and community service activities. Since 1975, the event has been raising up to $50,000, 100 percent of which goes right back to the community for scholarships, projects, and more. Organizations supported by La Plata Rotary include Boys and Girls State, the Charles County Arts Alliance, LifeStyles of Maryland, the Port Tobacco River Conservancy, Southern Maryland Food Bank, Special Olympics, Hospice of Southern Maryland, the Charles County Literacy Council, Spring Dell Center, UMC Charles Regional Medical Center, and many more.

While enjoying your lobster, find out what La Plata Rotary is all about. This community service organization is made up of some of Charles County’s most successful leaders. The group meets every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at the Greene Turtle in La Plata, where members are able to learn more about their region while meeting other business leaders. Rotary encompasses five avenues of service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service, and New Generations Service.
