Join the Fun at a Free Family Open House on July 10
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – This July, join St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks (R&P) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) as we celebrate the power of parks and recreation in bringing St. Mary’s County residents together through play, nature, well-being, and belonging. Throughout the month, Recreation & Parks will celebrate the people, places, and programs that enrich our community through the power of parks and recreation.
Each July, Park and Recreation Month recognizes the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — who maintain parks and recreation facilities across the nation. Across the department’s recreation, parks, and museum divisions, hundreds of St. Mary’s County staff members and dedicated volunteers work to ensure that parks, facilities, events, and programs provide positive experiences for all members of the community.
Recreation & Parks encourages county residents to share their experiences, memories, and stories about what parks and recreation mean to them by using the #ThePowerOf hashtag on social media and tagging St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks.
As part of the month’s celebration, Recreation & Parks will host a free Fun Friday Open House for families at Leonard Hall Recreation Center on Friday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature games and activities for all ages, along with raffle prizes.
Residents are also reminded that Recreation & Parks is currently updating the department’s Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan, and public input will be accepted through Friday, July 10. Community members can participate online by exploring an interactive map, posting ideas to the community ideas wall, using the budget prioritization tool, and completing a brief survey.
