PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A 39-year-old woman was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Prince Frederick after deputies conducted surveillance in an area known for drug activity, according to court documents.
Anita Marie Thompson, 39, of no fixed address, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on March 28, 2026, when deputies were conducting surveillance at a hotel on Main Street. During the operation, officers observed a white Kia Rio parked with multiple occupants and identified Thompson as the driver.
Authorities observed Thompson leave the area and initiated a traffic stop after learning her Maryland driver’s license was expired. The vehicle was stopped nearby on Main Street, where deputies made contact with Thompson.
During the stop, Thompson appeared evasive when questioned and was unable to clearly explain her travel details, according to the report. A K-9 unit was requested to the scene, and the police dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, giving deputies probable cause to search.
While no drugs were found inside the vehicle, a search of Thompson led to the discovery of a crack pipe and two containers holding a white powdery substance inside her purse. Based on training and experience, deputies identified the items as consistent with narcotics use and storage.
Investigators say Thompson later stated the substance was crack cocaine. She was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
A passenger in the vehicle was also detained during the investigation but was not charged.
Thompson was released on an unsecured personal bond of $1,500 later that day.
A hearing is set for June 8, 2026 in Calvert District Court.
A booking photo of the suspect was provided to TheBayNet.com by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office upon request.
