The Maryland State Fire Marshal investigated a house fire May 26 at 11:35 a.m. at 10800 Hopewell Place, La Plata.
The fire started as the result of a 5-year-old child playing with matches or a cigarette lighter, causing minor damage to the siding of the garage.
The La Plata Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the building’s exterior.
The family was not displaced and there were no injuries.
