St. Maryโs County Director of Land Use and Growth Management Derick Berlage has announced his resignation effective July 18. Berlage made the announcement to his staff yesterday.
Acting County Administrator Sue Sabo confirmed the resignation. She said Berlage wanted to be closer to family in Frederick County. All county department heads are required to live in St. Maryโs County and Berlage maintained a home in Breton Bay.
Berlage became director on April 15, 2009 after the death of Denis Canavan. Berlage made $110,000 annually according to Sabo. When asked if the county was going to advertise to fill the position, Sabo said, โWe are discussing that even as we speak.โ Sabo expected a decision as early as next week.
Berlage, before joining St. Maryโs County, served as chairman of the Maryland National; Capital Parks and Planning Commission, chairman of the Montgomery County Planning Commission and chief of Planning and Park Facilities for Montgomery County.
