On Saturday, Feb. 8, a large brush fire was reported in Friendship just across the Calvert County border between State Route 2 and 260. It became evident around 3 p.m. that additional units would be needed to put down the blaze which covered a great deal of land in the area.

The call went out for additional tankers and brush units to assist with a brush fire on Sansbury Road. By the time the blaze was brought under control, there were many fire units from both Anne Arundel and Calvert Counties. Command on the scene estimated that it would take about three to four additional hours to totally confirm the fire was out and under control.

The cause of the fire unknown at this time and is still under investigation. Some estimates were that from five to 10 acres were involved in the conflagration.
