At 12:34 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 28, Bay District Volunteer Fire Department dispatched units to a working commercial building fire at 20835 Point Lookout Road in Callaway.
Bay District Volunteer Fire Department responded with three units fully staffed, totaling 14 personnel.
Chief Willie Ridgell from Hollywood Rescue Squad was first on the scene minutes later, reporting heavy smoke coming from the Callaway laundromat.
At 12:41 p.m., Engine 32 under the direction of Chief Joe Gould arrived on the scene and laid out dual lines from the intersection of Point Lookout Road and the main entrance to Callaway Center.
Once crews made their entry into the building, firefighters encountered the fire to the rear of the Laundromat. An aggressive fire attack was performed and the fire was extinguished by crews from Engine 32 and Engine 61.
Crews from Truck 3, Engine 33, and E-63 performed searches, checked for extension, and provided ventilation. Engine 14’s crew checked the second floor for any fire extension and assisted with ventilation. The fire was contained to the Laundromat building. Crews cleared the scene at 2:15 p.m. and the Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the incident.
