LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Ted William Taylor Jr., 36, of Leonardtown, was arrested Nov. 4, 2025, in connection with an alleged incident of malicious destruction of property valued at more than $1,000, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of vandalism at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on Nov. 4, 2025. According to the SMCSO, deputies were informed that Taylor — who was already in custody at the facility — had allegedly been striking his cell window repeatedly with a food tray. Police documents state that the described damage occurred over a period of approximately four minutes.

When questioned by deputies, Taylor reportedly said he damaged the window because he wanted coffee, according to charging documents. The extent of the alleged property damage has been assessed at more than $1,000, which qualifies the offense as a felony under Maryland law.

Taylor has been charged with malicious destruction of property with a value exceeding $1,000. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500 under Maryland Criminal Law § 6-301.

Court records indicate that Taylor is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in St. Mary’s County District Court on Dec. 18, 2025.
