GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing multiple drug charges after deputies say he was found in possession of fentanyl, suspected crack cocaine and cannabis during a late-night traffic stop in Great Mills.

According to charging documents filed in St. Mary’s County District Court, 20-year-old Dewayne Anthony Dickens Jr. was pulled over around 3:15 a.m. on May 11, 2025, on Chancellor’s Run Road for a tag light violation. A deputy from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office initiated the stop after spotting a red Ford Ranger with an inoperable light.

During the stop, Dickens was identified through MVA records. A K-9 scan conducted by Deputy Senatore and his partner, Karma, yielded a positive alert. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle but did not locate any evidence at that time.

A subsequent search of Dickens revealed a plastic bag of suspected cannabis inside his pants, a folded one-dollar bill containing suspected crack cocaine in his jacket pocket and a white rock-like substance in his sneaker. Dickens was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Before entering the facility, deputies asked if he had any additional contraband. Dickens reportedly denied having anything further. However, during intake at the detention center, staff discovered a folded five-dollar bill in his clothing containing five blue pills marked “M 30,” later determined to be counterfeit oxycodone tablets containing fentanyl.

Dickens was charged with two counts of possession of a non-cannabis controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of contraband in a place of confinement.

Each CDS possession charge carries a maximum penalty of four years in jail and/or a $25,000 fine. The paraphernalia charge carries up to one year and/or a $500 fine, while introducing contraband into a correctional facility is punishable by up to three years and/or a $1,000 fine.

Dickens was released on his own recognizance. A trial is scheduled for June 17, 2025, in Courtroom 1 at St. Mary’s District Court. The case remains open.
