Local band ShallowDeep has just finished their debut full-length CD, Ammunition, and will release it in Southern Maryland Friday July 28 at Badfish Dock Bar and Grill in Solomon’s.  Their music is a blend of a little pop, a lot of rock, a little edge mixed in and an occasional hip hop for extra flavor.  Their musical influences come from Incubus, 311, and Tool to name a few.

I met with Steve Nelson, lead singer and Brandon bassist for the band at Badfish for an exclusive Bay Net listen to the CD.  After hearing the entire CD from beginning to end, I liked “Kill Her Noise,” “Drowning Out” and best of all “Maybe Never.”  “Maybe Never” is definitely ready for radio air play.  It has that made-for-radio sound that sells CD’s and brings fans.  Some may say that’s a sell out, to do a song that plays well on radio, but I say, you get air play and good things happen for a band.  And it is rarely the intent to do so.

ShallowDeep kicks off their Live Ammunition tour Thursday night in Baltimore with their Baltimore release of the CD, but the big release takes place Friday night at Badfish.  They will also have an all-ages release party at Neptune’s Sunday, July 30, for all the cool kids to check it out.

Ammunition was recorded at Might Sky studios in Waldorf. The CD is self produced, but was engineered by Ron Vanto, who has worked with Wakefield and others.  Nelson said that the CD took about two months to record.  Some of the songs had as many as forty tracks, which is a lot for a single song.  The current combination of Brandon on drums and Travers on guitar, Steve on lead vocals, Dan on guitar and Ryan on guitar have been together for about 5 months and have gelled into a tight lineup. 

The bands tour will take them to Miami, Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Buffalo, N.Y. and the Richapalooza Festival in Reading, Pennsylvania.  And the guys will be traveling via their van and trailer, so this is hardcore touring people! No fancy tour buses for these guys.  “We love doing this and this is my passion,” said Nelson. 

So come out to Badfish Dock Bar and Grill to see these guys play their hearts out and get their CD while they still have them and send them off on their tour.
