A local family will be featured tonight (Tuesday, December 10) on a nationally televised cable TV show. Kevin Poole and his family will be interviewed on the National Geographic Channel show “Doomsday Preppers,” to air at 9 and 11 p.m. Preppers are survivalists preparing for the end of civilization.
Poole’s company, Triton Metals of Hollywood, began manufacturing pre-fabricated bomb shelters earlier this year, which was the subject of a Bay Net profile. See story http://www.thebaynet.com/news/index.cfm/fa/viewstory/story_ID/31497
Poole has also developed an elaborate underground shelter for his own property to protect his own close-knit family from an EMP (Electro-magnetic Pulse) attack. Kevin’s family includes three pregnant daughters. Their survival plan relies on a customized 15-ton bunker buried 20 feet underground and stocked with baby supplies and doomsday essentials.
The unique structure also has a gruesome component. On the show Kevin says that there is a high incidence of suicides in shelter living. So he has designed a 10-foot long chute that not only will accommodate the disposal of trash and human waste, but also bodies.
