Strasburg Pitches First Complete Game of his career!!
Hello Sports Fans, I’m Buddy Long. And this is the Monday August 12th edition of Southern Maryland Sports.
Washington Nationals:
Stephen Strasburg pitched a 4 hitter, striking out 10, in the first complete game of his career, helping guide the Washington Nationals to a dominating 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday at NationalsPark. Jayson Werth had his second straight 3 hit game, while Steve Lombardozzi also added 3 hits in the winning cause. The win raises the Nats record to 57-60, 14 and a half games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. Washington will have the day off today, preparing for another 3 game home stand, beginning Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants.
Baltimore Orioles:
Speaking of the Giants, they were pounded by the Orioles Sunday at PacificBellPark 10-2 as Baltimore takes 2 of the 3 in the series, raising their current road record to 4-1. J.J Hardy had a go ahead 2 run homer in the 7th while Adam Jones added some insurance, a 3 run shot in the 9th. The win raises the O’s to 65-52, 5 games back of Boston in the American League East, and just behind Oakland in the battle for the final wildcard spot in the American League. Baltimore will wrap up their road trip with a series beginning tonight in Arizona.
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs:
Wade Korpi had a strong outing on the mound as the Blue Crabs downed the Somerset Patriots 2-1 Sunday at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Crabs were able to only take 1 of 2 from the Patriots at home over the weekend, now sitting 12-23 in the Liberty Division basement. The team hits the road again Monday night for a series against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
