John Clifton Jones Jr.
Prince Frederick, MD – A Southern Maryland man was served with a six-count indictment related to a series of sexual abuse incidents involving a minor. According to records on file in the court system, a Calvert County grand jury handed down defendant John Clifton Jones Jr.’s indictment earlier this month. Jones, 38, is currently incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center. While court documents identify Jones as a Lusby resident, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has his home address listed as Piney Point.
According to court documents, the case against Jones was initially investigated by St. Mary’s County authorities, who forwarded the case to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office last month. Child Protective Services (CPS) advised investigators that the victim “had been engaging in [a] sexual relationship with the suspect for several years. The victim recently delivered a child and CPS was contacted due to some health-related issues with the child.”
Jones was indicted on four counts of sex abuse of a minor and two counts of third-degree sex offense. The offenses allegedly took place from 2010 to 2014. All six charges are felonies.
A court docket summary shows Jones has a pretrial hearing tentatively scheduled for June 27, a plea hearing currently slated for July 29 and jury trial in early September.
