LOTHIAN, Md. – A Lothian man is facing multiple charges after allegedly discharging a semi-automatic rifle near residential homes late Tuesday night, prompting a large police response and aerial search.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 6, 2025, officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the 100 block of Bobcat Court following reports of a man firing a gun into a wooded area behind several homes. A witness told police they saw the suspect fire a round from a green, black, and gold rifle before walking into the nearby woods.

Responding officers reported hearing yelling behind a residence, along with the distinct sound of a firearm’s slide being racked. Officers quickly located the suspect at his residence and detained him without incident. A search of the property led to the recovery of a Diamondback Arms Model DB15 AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, which was found on the rear deck and secured as evidence.

The department’s Aviation Unit conducted an aerial search of the wooded area for potential victims or additional suspects, but none were found.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Edward Jones, 34, of Lothian, was arrested and charged with four offenses, including reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm within 100 yards of a structure, intoxicated endangerment, and disorderly conduct.

Jones was released on his own recognizance following a bail hearing on May 7. A trial is scheduled for July 11, 2025, in the Annapolis District Court.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
