LOVEVILLE, MD — The tiny St. Mary’s County community of Loveville boasts a two-line entry in the Wikipedia. According to the entry, the area is best known for its farmers’ market, crafts, and annual quilt auction.

Normally, it’s a pretty quiet place. But this time of year, things are jumping at the post office. The Loveville Post Office is housed in a 20-year-old single-wide trailer that sits out in a field. Normally, it serves just a few hundred customers. However, thanks to a special Valentine’s postmark, folks from all over the region show up this time of year to mail packages, cards, and letters to their sweethearts.

Folks from out-of-state can get the special postmark as well. All they need to do is mail a stamped, addressed card or letter in another envelope or box labeled “Valentine re-mailing” and address it to the postmaster.

Loveville is one of three dozen romantically-named communities across the U.S. where the Post Office offers this service.
