On Oct. 16 at 9:03 p.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf for the report of a shooting inside a house. The caller indicated he left his house for a short period of time and when he returned home, he found his 1-year-old pit bull dog with a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim stated his brother, who lives with him, shot the dog with a shotgun and was still in possession of the gun. Officers arrived and recovered a 410 shotgun from the suspect. They also found the dog inside his kennel which was inside the house.
Officers and animal control personnel attempted to treat the dog, but the dog had already died.
William Haight, 59, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and reckless endangerment.
