At 10:03 p.m. May 14, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 9700 block of Orland Park Road in Newburg for the report of an assault.
Investigation revealed the accused, Riley Thomas Christmas, Jr., 30, of Newburg, got into an argument with another man at the residence.
Christmas went to his residence, retrieved a handgun and returned to the residence.
A third man, 43, of Newburg, who lives at the residence saw Christmas with the handgun and attempted to intervene. He reached out to grab the handgun and was shot in the hand. It caused a minor injury and he refused medical treatment.
Christmas was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer M. Burrows investigated.
